Megan Fisher is a Paralympic gold and silver medalist, nine time world champion, and proud member of Team USA. Megan’s road to the top of the podium has not been easy. Twelve years ago, Megan was involved in a tragic car accident that stole the life of her best friend as well as the lower half of her left leg.
As a lifelong athlete, prior to the car accident, Megan competed as a collegiate tennis player. After the car accident, once Megan awoke from her coma, she fought to overcome relatively simple challenges like sitting up in a chair, feeding herself and had to relearn how to walk. With the help and support of countless medical professionals, her family and friends Megan recovered enough strength to return to competitive athletics. Less than one year after losing her leg, Megan competed in her first triathlon.
Since that day, Megan has continued to push herself to explore and expand her physical boundaries. Megan has competed against able-bodied athletes in sprint & olympic distance road triathlons, became the first female challenged athlete to attempt and complete an XTERRA off-road triathlon, won two solo 24hr endurance mountain bike races against able-bodied cyclists, as well as competed in numerous cycling events. All of her training and perseverance paid off when she earned coveted positions on the USA Paralympic Cycling Team and Paralympic Triathlon Team. For Megan, getting the opportunity represent Team USA on sport’s grandest stage is a dream come true.
Outside of competition, Megan keeps herself busy. She is a doctor of physical therapy and cherishes the opportunity to help others live their lives to the fullest. While she enjoys training, Megan also enjoys travelling, cross-country skiing, white-water rafting and adventuring with her dog, Betsy.
